“I Want to Feel Joy”

Hello, I’m Coach Petey,

Often I get the same response from the new humans I meet. A feeling of pity and discomfort. It’s because I’m mostly blind and have two bum legs.

But the sun feels wonderful on my skin and the grass is delicious. My friends and I play and rear and gallop across the fields (even though it hurts later and I can hardly walk…)

Today I am in the round pen as a woman prepares to come in with me. I am standing right behind her on the other side of the fence. She feels fragile yet strong at the same time. Kind of like me.

She said she has been sad for a very long time, since her husband died. Suddenly, the woman throws her arms wide open and says, “I just want to feel joy!”

Whoo-hoo! She is speaking my language! I whirl and prance to the center of the round pen. When she comes in we approach each other and then walk together calmly around the ring. We stop and look out over the trees and notice the warm wind rustling the leaves. We are separate yet at the moment we are the same.

Our bodies and hearts may be bruised and bent - but are spirits are not broken! 

This IS Joy!
